Indian culture and traditions have always attracted tourists from across the globe to India. To boost Faith tourism, plan is to develop more religious tourist circuits to attract foreign footfalls and encourage greater domestic travelling. Faith Tourism in India is undoubtedly a recession proof model and it is one of the best ways to give insight into the rich cultural heritage of India.

Other than Hindu Religion Circuits, the government is planning to promote Buddhist and Jewish Tourist Circuits in India. The plan is to include approximately 22 Sufi Circuits as well as British era war cemeteries also. There are also plans to connect pilgrimage centers in the North with those in the South.

India has a huge potential as far as Faith Tourism is concerned. India is a hub of multiple cultures and religions. There is a saying in India that culture and traditions change after every

5 kilometers. Statistics reveal that foreign tourists arrivals have been on the rise of late and a majority of tourists show interest in learning about the cultures and traditions of India.

World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) states that the country has the highest growth potential over a 10-year period between 2009 and 2018. The sector had registered an annual growth rate of 2.04 percent from 2004-05 to 2010-11. According to the tourism ministry, 6.29 million foreign tourists arrived in 2011, earning the country $16.5 billion.

Himachal Pradesh, the land of Gods and Demi-Gods can benefit heavily from this plan. There are hundreds of temples in Himachal Pradesh. In Mandi Town alone there are more than 30 Temples of Archaeological and Historical importance.
