The 3rd National Winter Carnival at Manali got underway yesterday and festivities continue till 6th January 2014. This 5 day long Winter Carnival offers a great range of attraction for every single individual. There is something for everyone in this carnival.
Manali is an exotic and most visited hill destination of Himachal Pradesh located in the northern side of Kullu valley. With an altitude of 6500ft. above mean sea level the town is surrounded by thick forests and snow covered mountains.
Inhabitants of Manali still hold the traditional and cultural values in spite of sweeping waves of modernization. Manali has loads of exciting opportunities for them who are keen to know more about this town’s nature, story adventure and culture.
History
The journey of Winter Carnival dates back to 1977 when the first fair was held in Manali and was inaugurated by Dr. Y.S. Parmar, viagra 100mg the then Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
At that time local events were included in the fair. With the passage of time in 1999 after witnessing the success of the carnival it was announced as to be a state level event.
Again in the 2011 it was announced by the then Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal to be celebrated as the National Festival. Thereafter, the carnival is to be celebrated as a National Winter Carnival for the third time in January 2014.
Participants
This Carnival holds competitions based and is open for all groups, schools, colleges and youth clubs of India where the team members perform in group or as individual. Non competitive guest items are also entertained.
Norms, Guidelines and Facilities for the participants
There are certain norms and parameters set by the organizers for the participating teams such as the age of participants should be between 16 to 35 years. The application form with the marginal amount of fee should reach the organizing chairman before the due date. Each team has to participate in minimum six items and carnival parade and folk dance is compulsory for all teams.
Certain guidelines are issued by the organizing committee regarding Arrival, Boarding and Lodging. Transportation facility is also provided by the organizers with the help of government and private sector.
