KC-520, salve stomach a British built steam engine that reached Shimla on November 20 has been successfully tested on the Kalka-Shimla railway track today. This steam engine was previously functioning from the Shimla Railway station and it was brought to Shimla after a gap of 4 years.

The steam engine was built in the year 1903 and it’s been a long journey since then.North British Locomotive Company designed this engine for INR 30,000. However, the advent of diesel and electric engines resulted in the decommissioning of this engine in the year 1971. It was brought to the Shimla Railway station in the year 2001.

The railways authorities are expecting a huge rush of tourists this season and that’s one of the reasons this engine has been brought back.

As of now, the engine will run between Shimla and Kaithlighat stations only. Railway authorities will take decision on continuing its services till Kalka station in near future.
