Tourists holidaying in hill resorts of Himachal Pradesh woke up to a cold Valentine Day with it snowing outside the window.
Rains, winds accompanied by snowflakes lashed the city here late in the evening yesterday and the chilly temperatures dropped further, intensifying the prevailing cold wave sweeping the hills.
The popular township of Manali in Kullu valley, Kalpa in high altitude district of Kinnaur, Narkanda, Kufri, Fagu, Kharapathar and Chanshal Pass in Shimla hills and the majestic Churdhar ranges in Sirmaur, all have recorded mild to heavy snowfall.
At place power lines had snapped, water supply lines had frozen and traffic on the highway to Kinnaur and Spiti had been snowed in at Narkanda, with the skiing resort reported to have had over 30 cms of snow by early morning.
Where the higher hills were reeling under the cold wave, widespread rains were reported in the lower hills of the state.
