The first luxury train of India embarked on its maiden voyage on 26 January 2012. Within one year this luxury train service has become immensely popular among foreign tourists and Upper Middle Class of India. Its popularity can be adjudged with the fact that despite of the marginal festive hikes in the occupancy rates, Palace on Wheels is still pulling a large chunk of foreign tourists.

Without any doubt, Palace on Wheels has served inspiration for various other Indian luxury trains . Architectural aesthetics of the erstwhile princely states of Rajasthan inspired the designers of this train to give it a similar look. The kind of amenities and services offered in this train is tantamount to a five star luxury hotel.

The itinerary of this luxury tourist train covers former princely states of Rajasthan such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and  Udaipur among others.

Palace On Wheels was launched in the year 1982 and in India, it is a recognized body by the Ministry of Tourism.
