Singapore it is then! No Bangkok, no Malaysia, not even Nepal, Indians love Singapore. Singapore remained a preferred holiday destination for Indians despite the slowdown in the economy in 2012, reports Singapore Tourism Board.
4.78 Lakh Indians traveled to Singapore in the first half of 2012, an increase of six percent compared to the same period last year. Singapore Tourism Board believes that these figures are a testimony to the fact that Singapore remained an ideal destination for Indians and rightly so. Short stay and shorter holidays was one of the biggest reasons for Indians opting to travel to Singapore this year.
It appears that the economic slowdown did not have any impact on the number of Indian travelers to Singapore. Singapore remained the most preferred destination for the Upper Middle Class because holidaying for them is no more a hobby or a short break, but it has become a necessity at least once a year.
India ranks fifth after Indonesia, China, Malaysia, and Australia as the largest visitor generating market. The number of Indians traveling to Singapore is swelling every year. In the year 2011, it stood at 8.69 lakhs, an increase of five percent over 2010.
India is third largest market after Indonesia and China. India’s contribution has gone up from 911 million Singapore dollars in 2010 to 1.1 billion in 2011, indicating that Indians spend more, especially on accommodation.
‘Singapore – the holiday you take home with you’, is the slogan that Singapore Tourism board has been using in India and if we look at the numbers, this slogan is working for sure. The tourism board is trying to woo Indian travelers, especially couples, by focusing on latest tourism offerings.
