The shortest road link between the Pangi Valley and Chamba, the Sach Pass has been closed down for 2012. The pass will now remain closed until June 2013. The Sach Pass stands at a height of more than 4000 meters and it is one of the toughest motor-able mountain passes in Himachal Pradesh.
Sach Pass is known as gateway to the beautiful Pangi Valley in Chamba District. The idyllic Pangi Valley attracts a number of backpackers, especially foreigners.
It’s likely to be reopened in June next year when the snow thaws. The pass, located at an altitude of 14,500 ft, has been officially closed both for the pedestrians and the motorists.
Residents of the Pangi Valley would have to travel via Jammu and Kashmir, covering a distance of more than 500 km to reach Chamba town. The other approach via Rohtang Pass is also closed because the Rohtang Pass closed down early this month for the year.
