Lake, the sanctuary is a home to many migratory birds. The sanctuary is also famous by the name of “Mini Switzerland”.
Spread over an area of 20 km, the sanctuary is an attraction in tourists for the “floating island” present in the center of the Khajjiar Lake. There is a very famous Khajianag temple at the edge of this meadow, from which the place derives its name.
The tourists from all over the world visit this magnificent sanctuary every year and enjoy the picturesque beauty of this place. The lush green valley and hilly terrain is a perfect attraction for the adventure lovers visiting the place.
The area is thickly populated with Deodar, Green Oak, Blue Pine and Rhododendron forests.
Just like other famous wildlife sanctuaries of Himachal Pradesh, the sanctuary is rich in diverse species of animals and birds.
Bear, Jackals, Langur, Squirrel, and Himalayan Black Marten are some of the animals found in the region.
The best time to visit the sanctuary is from April to June and October to November.
There are many government guest houses present in and around the sanctuary for the tourists to stay.
The famous Khajji Cottage, a cafe operated by the State Tourism Department is the best place to sit and relax in the laps of nature in Khajjiar.
